Proportion - Practice 1

In this course, we will go through a series of carefully curated questions on direct and inverse proportion. The questions are selected to cover the most commonly tested concepts and problem types in examinations.

Practice 1 - Question 1

The amount of paint needed to cover the walls of a house is proportional to the square of the length of the wall. When the length is 6m, the amount of paint needed is 300 ml.

Calculate the amount of paint needed when the length of the wall is 9m.

Practice 1 - Question 2

The number of push-ups done per minute, N, by a student is inversely proportional to his mass, m. If a 50 kg student can do 30 push-ups per minute, find an equation connecting N and m.

Practice 1 - Question 3

y is directly proportional to \(x^2\). Find the percentage increase or decrease in the value of \(y\) when \(x\) is doubled.

Practice 1 - Question 4

\(x\) is inversely proportional to the square of \(y\). It is known that \(x=12\) for a particular value of \(y\).
Find the value of \(x\) when this value of \(y\) is halved.
